Like walking straight into a BBQ crab-shack from the deep south, the Big Easy successfully evokes a feeling of true Americana.
We chose Monday night to go, and every Monday hosts the ‘Big Pig Gig’. This is an all-you-can-eat meat extravaganza setting a real challenge for those that claim to be able to eat anyone else under the table. For a very decent £14.95 you can get a ceaseless supply of racks of ribs and giant chicken legs draped manfully in a BBQ sauce to die for.
The sauce really is a triumph to the point of me looking earnestly around the joint to see if they’d bottled it up to sell for the masses.. no such luck, but it’s definitely advised for the Big Easy to do, they’d make a killing unless it’s ‘Mama’s ol’ secret recipe’.
The deal also includes sides of beans, ‘slaw and a free drink of beer or Margarita.
Shortly before the food arrived we were presented with ‘Big Easy bibs’ – this definitely does encourage a freer eating style giving you license to gobble the meat at a good rate of knots.
With four of us at the table there was a challenge afoot to see who could pack the most away, but once the fourth plate of food arrived with the bones were stacked mightily high, we were near enough beaten.
Big Easy has a fantastic feel about the place – the staff all seem to love their jobs, and we were served attentively without fault.
Monday night is not the only night were meal-deals are on offer; most nights seem to provide a wallet-loving feast and with Fridays and Saturdays this also brings live music to accompany the evening. The food is wide-ranging and varied covering ribs, burgers, fajitas all the way through to crab, big shrimp and lobster – options for everyone.
We will definitely be going back again and again..
